On September 24, 2016, the highly anticipated opening of the Smithsonian National Museum of African American History had finally arrived! Tickets to the opening of the event were hard to come by, but Artistic Motions was there on the second day of the museum’s opening. We were looking forward to the visit with great anticipation knowing that a portion of the AM video ‘Somebody Else’s Arms’ would be featured in an exhibit in the Cultural Expressions Gallery of the museum.
The NMAAHC visit was a moment of pride for the fact that there was now a museum where the African-American culture could be proudly displayed AND for the fact that AM was featured in one of the museum’s exhibits. We found the exhibit and all of the family and friends of AM in attendance were excited and joyful when the cameo of the AM video was finally found. Take a look at the video below to see the moment when we all witnessed the AM sighting in the 4-minute looping video exhibit.
To really appreciate the magnificence and splendor of the museum you must see it up close and personal. There is so much to absorb that you’ll probably need more than one visit to take it all in.
